One Person Dead, Hundreds of Gallons of Fuel Spilled in Bridgeville Crash

Bridgeville, De. (DELMARVA NEWS NOW) — Delaware State Police continue their investigation of a Sunday morning crash in Bridgeville that led to the death of one person.

The incident happened around 10:53 a.m. at the intersection of Sussex Highway (Route 13) and Redden Road. Troopers say a man traveling in a 2004 Toyota Corolla struck a 1989 White Manufacturing 6 wheel fuel truck carrying diesel fuel. The left front of the Corolla struck the right front of the truck. The impact caused the fuel truck to overturn, landing upside down and spilling a “substantial amount of diesel fuel” into the roadway.

The 49-year-old driver of the Corolla, identified as Isias Perez of Bridgeville was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the fuel truck, a 64-year-old man from Milton was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Sussex Highway in the area of Redden Road was shut down for over four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
