Ocean City, Md. (DELMARVA NEWS NOW) — In the peak of the morning commute on Wednesday, the Route 50 drawbridge in and out of Ocean City became stuck in the open position.
Town and MDOT officials say the bridge was stuck open for over an hour, creating a traffic headache for motorists in West Ocean City and in Ocean City. Crews say the cause of the issue was an electrical malfunction.
This is not the first time the Ocean City drawbridge has become stuck in the open position, happening in the past in the midst of hot weather.
Ocean City Communications Manager Jessica Waters reiterated to the public that the bridge is “deemed healthy so there will be no closure” despite reporting earlier in the day that it would be closing for emergency repairs. She continued that “A maintenance person will be on-site for the scheduled openings for boats in the White Marlin Open.”
