Somerset County Opens Tropical Storm Isaias Shelter

The following is a statement from the Somerset County Government.

“Due to the impending storm, Isaias and the prediction of strong and sustained winds, the Somerset County Commissioners and Emergency Operations Center recommend evacuation of all mobile homes in Somerset County. A voluntary evacuation of Smith Island is also recommended.

As we are still dealing with Covid 19 when you evacuate it is recommended you stay at a hotel or with a friend or family member out of harms’ way.

Washington High School will be open as a shelter at 7pm Monday evening for those that need it. Masks will be required. Pets are allowed; bring their shot records, medications and crates if you have them.

Transportation to the shelter will be provided from the following locations on Monday August 3, 2020 at 6:30 PM:

  • Carvel Hall Crisfield
  • Marion Fire Department
  • Fairmount Fire Department
  • Dash In Westover and the OLD Somerset County Sheriffs’ Office on Sam Barnes Road
  • Lucky’s Last Chance
  • Park and Ride Westover

 

Residents should bring masks, blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, medications and personal hygiene items. If you have special dietary needs, bring your own supplies.
