Talbot County Adopts $1,000 Fine For People Not Wearing Masks

The Talbot County Council has approved a $1,000 fine for those who fail to wear face coverings in areas where they are required by Governor Larry Hogan’s executive orders.

The Council approved the measure on Tuesday in a 4-1 vote. The penalty applies to those who fail to wear a face mask and for businesses that violate the Governor’s directives on opening safely.

“These measures take effect immediately” said Council President Corey Pack.” He continued “We are working to keep everyone as safe as possible and are continuing to closely follow the Governor’s Maryland Strong Roadmap to Recovery.”

The County’s Health Officer Dr. Fredia Wadley recommended that the Council consider limiting the number of people allowed at both indoor and outdoor gatherings.

“When you are talking about a virus like COVID-19, there is no safe number.’ Dr. Wadley said.
