Thousands Utilize Special Open Enrollment Period Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic

Maryland’s healthcare marketplace Maryland Health Connection is holding a special enrollment period due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, resulting in thousands of Marylanders getting insured.

According to Maryland Health Benefit Exchange, more than 21,500 Marylanders have enrolled in the period that last through July 15.

61 percent of the enrollees have been in Medicaid, which the remainder selecting private insurance. Most have qualified for financial help to lower the cost of their plan.

Michele Eberle, executive director for the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange said “We want to make sure as many people as possible use these special enrollment periods to get covered.” She continued “If you know someone who does not have health insurance, please tell them to visit our website or call our call center.”
